Matt’s Memo #7 / 9-minute read

Video Version of Memo:

YouTube video

At one point, I asked myself, Do you deserve to attain what you dream of accomplishing?

A lot of people have a tough time with that, don’t they?

And that’s why they’re not getting what they want, they’re not achieving their goals.

Let’s jump into a chapter in ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’ from Napoleon Hill

You Are What You Think You Are

It’s called, ‘You Are What You Think You Are,’ and includes two powerful lines.

Here’s what it says: “How you think determines how you act. “How you act in turn determines how others react to you.”

That’s high-powered stuff.

Sometimes people say to themselves…“All these bad things happen to me.”

And then they hear material like ‘The Secret’ or ‘Law of Attraction’ that talk about how you get what you put out.

And people say, ‘Well, I didn’t put out all this bad negative stuff. I don’t know why that person’s upset with me. I don’t know why they’re being mean to me or why my Aunt Martha treats me so badly.’

But I want you to think about something:

How Do You IMPACT “Aunt Martha?”

Even if you can’t trace back why, let’s say Aunt Martha, for some reason, for the last 5, 10, 15 years of your life…

…you can’t understand why Aunt Martha says hurtful things every time you’re around her.

Even if you can’t honestly think back to a time where you did something to deserve her negative treatment…

I’m willing to bet that because of her negative way with you over the years, when you get around Aunt Martha, you think in a way that determines how you act.

  • You think negatively towards her.
  • You think mean thoughts towards her.
  • You think how awful she is.

And so that comes out in your actions when you’re around her.

  • You’re feeding into her negativity…
  • …she’s seeing combativeness in you…
  • …she’s seeing a reason to continue the verbal attacks at you…

All because how you think determines how you act, how you act in turn determines how others react to you.

So think about that over the next week in your personal life, in your business life.

What do you think about other people?

How does that come out in your actions?

How does it affect the way you sound on the phone, how you look in person, how your emails sound to people.

Consider that.

I think that’s compelling stuff.

Do You Believe You’re WORTHY?

And I think that goes back to this idea of do you think you’re worthy?

Because if you don’t think you’re worthy, how do you think your actions follow those kinds of thoughts?

Think about when you’re dealing with people, personal and business, and you’re coming from that place in your mind…

…even if it’s not consciously being thought but subconsciously…

…you feel like you don’t deserve good things.

How do you think other people react to that as they feel that from you?

Remember that there’s a lot more to us as human beings than what we can see, or what we can touch.

There’s an aspect to all of us, the spiritual part, that people pick up on…

…which they can’t see but they can feel it…

…and they can feel if you’re confident about yourself or if you’re not confident about yourself.

So, How Do You View Yourself?

How sincere are you with yourself as far as getting to a place where you really do see that you deserve exceptional things

If you falter in this area, I want you to get to that point where inside yourself…

…you know you deserve the best

…you know you deserve to achieve everything you want to achieve in your life.

That is so key to helping you thrive in your business as well as in your personal relationships

Let Me Give You a Quick Exercise…

To help you with being sincere with yourself and with others, I’d like you to sit down and get in a quiet place

Get away from your family and your business and everything else going on in your life.

Just you and your thoughts where you feel comfortable and safe, and begin to brainstorm for maybe 15, 20, 30 minutes, whatever it takes for you.

Heck, if you want to sit there for two hours and go through this, I mean, it’s up to you.

Take the time to come up with a list of people in your life right now, both personal and business relationships.

I’d like you to think of a few key people.

  • People that you like…
  • …that you trust…
  • …that you respect.

Jot those people down and think about what you can do for those people…

…over the next weeks and coming months.

What can you do for them without expecting anything in return?

Because to me, one of the most basic areas of sincerity is coming from a place in your heart where you have no problem doing something for somebody else, helping them out with no concern for getting something back.

I’ve got a client right now going through a severe health challenge, and his mom is going through one at the same time.

I told him, “Look, let’s put business aside for a moment. “If you ever need to talk to someone, unload some of the unbearable feelings on someone, I’m here. “Email me, let it out…or we hop on a quick call and you can unload. “I’m a good listener. “I’ve done this with family members going through the same thing you are. “Sometimes that’s all you need, and you can empty yourself, and move forward positively.”

My client expressed great gratitude for that.

Why Do We Fail To Hit Our Goals?

So, if you have a goal and this is just an example,

Let’s say you have a goal for a certain car.

Why shouldn’t you have that car?

Or, you have a goal to get your affiliate marketing or network marketing or coaching business to $5000 or $10,000 per month.

You’re struggling, though.

You’ve been thinking about that car or income level forever it seems.

And you don’t feel much closer to the goal yet.

But think about this:

If somebody else has attained the means to get that car, why not you

If you see others making $5k, $10k, or $20k per month, why not you?

What’s stopping you?

Is it possible that the only difference between you and that person is their self-image before they attained the same goal you now seek?

Their self-image allowed that car or business success to fit into their life…

…where right now your self-image is potentially inhibiting you from believing that you can have that car, income, or whatever your chief aim is.

For some reason, buried deep within you, you don’t deserve that car.

You think you don’t deserve to make five-figures per month…

…to feel the exhilaration of quitting your job…

…or thumbing your nose at AI replacing what you do.

That’s not true, though.

The Real Truth About Life

Look at life in this way:

If it’s possible for somebody else to attain something, then it’s possible for me to attain it.

Write that down.

Ponder on that the moment you:

  • Wake up
  • At lunch
  • When you go to bed

If it’s possible for somebody else to attain something that I want to attain, it’s possible for me to attain it.

Now the issue is:

Why haven’t I attained it?

What’s going on with how I view myself?

Why is my own viewpoint of who I am not allowing me to get my reality to fit into that goal

Very important point I think and I want you to focus on that.

So, Why is Self-Image So Vital?

Because you’re in complete control of your destiny either way.

If your self-image is low, you’re controlling your destiny in a negative manner

If your self-image is exactly where it needs to be and you know everything you deserve and you know you’re going to get it, you’re in control of that destiny.

You’re going to attain it.

You see how potent that is?

A lot of people don’t understand that.

By the way, I still waver back and forth between this good and bad spot.

It’s something I continually pay attention to and work on.

You and I aren’t that different.

We have certain things we believe, both positive and negative, about ourselves.

The more we can operate on the positive side of our beliefs, the more we’ll accomplish.

The more we operate in the lie of, “I’m no good. Or, I don’t deserve those things.”

The more we’ll falter in our attempts to improve our lives and businesses.

It’s a tricky slope.

Faith Can Change It For The Better

It’s one reason I bring up God and faith so much.

I became a born-again Christian at age 15.

But then I fell for the Enemy’s lie for over 35 years

Yup, I denied Christ throughout my 20s, 30s, and 40s, believing the lie of the world that I could “become my own God.”

I couldn’t see that becoming “my own God” is why Satan and the fall of Man occurred in the first place.

It took me until I was 51 to pivot back to Jesus and give up my wants and desires for Him.

The interesting thing is my life has only improved since, business-wise, financially, and most importantly to me, in finally guiding my wife, daughter, and grandchildren in the way I should have all those years.

You can use non-believer material like Napoleon Hill teachings to help you with your self-image issues, but for me, it only took me so far

The true answers for how we are to live and deal with others are in the Bible.

If you’re a non-believer today, just consider that.

Consider opening up your Bible with a new eye for looking for the answers you need

But if you’re not ready to do that today, I get it…

That was me for 36 years

Dare To Dream Large Dreams

So, although it’s questionable that Napoleon Hill was a true believer, let me give you something from him that might help you.

There’s a part in Hill’s “The Magic of Thinking Big” where he says, “Dare To Dream large dreams, fill yourself with the faith that nothing is impossible.’

Begin With the End in Mind

He also talks about beginning with the end in mind…

…which leads me to an idea from a book that you’ve probably heard of called ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey

Again, a man of questionable beliefs, but there’s a chapter Covey calls ‘Begin With the End in Mind’

Here’s what he says: “Begin with the end in mind is based on the principle that all things are created twice.“There’s a mental or first creation and a physical or second creation to all things.”

That’s exactly what I’m talking about here when we’re looking at your self-image…

…and how you view yourself…

…and whether or not you can achieve what it is you say you want to achieve.

If your self-image is not at the point where you can begin with the end in mind and see yourself with the goal accomplished…

…start developing the belief in that…

…getting the determination and turning it into action that you will get to that end goal…

If you haven’t first created it in your mind, how in the world are you ever going to create it in the physical world?

You see how that works?

Business Success Starts With Inner Worth

Now, what does all this have to do with building an affiliate marketing, network marketing, or high-ticket coaching business?

It’s understanding your inner worth that makes any technical marketing skill “work”...

…end of story.

And if you want to super-charge all this, again I encourage you to look toward God.

Build a relationship with Him and ask Him if you’re doing what He created you to do

It’s because I finally asked that question of my Creator that I’m here writing this Memo with this message to you.

However, no matter the path you take from this message…

I encourage you to at least use the exercise I gave you, or pull out one of the other ideas, and use the information to get yourself where you want to be tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year.

My prayer today is that my ideas here help you in a meaningful way.

See you in my next Memo with more exploration into the concepts and skills that will drive more leads and sales for your business.

Helping you build it big,
Matt
