I’m often asked, Matt, What’s the best way to approach prospects in Network Marketing?

My answer is always, Stop approaching prospects in network marketing! In this video, I’m going to show you why the best network marketers don’t approach prospects at all…

I’m Matt Zavadil & I’m passionate about helping networkers like you improve your leadership & marketing skills.

I encourage you to stick around to the end because I’m going to give you three ACTIONABLE tips you can start using immediately to stop uncomfortable tactics to approaching people that may have them thinking you’re a weirdo on the internet, and instead, ATTRACT your best-fit prospects who willingly buy from you.

BTW, this is video three in a series that digs into vital MLM topics like how to find leads, how to talk to leads, and how to get them to join your business.

Before I give you the answer to attracting and enrolling best fit prospects, I’d be honored if you’d subscribe to my channel so you never miss a future video training, and share this video with your upline, downline, sidelines, and friends who need to hear the message.

OK, let’s get to it…

If you’re asking, What’s the best way to approach prospects in Network Marketing? Let me ask YOU a question: How do you feel when you go into a store and the salesperson comes flying up to you with “hey, how can I help you? What do you want to look at? What are you looking for? Can I show this or that to you?”

Don’t know about you but I usually look at my wife with that look of, Can we just leave now?

While wanting to ask the salesperson, “Yo, how many cups of coffee did you drink already?”

LOL

I’m baffled by something. I’m baffled by how many network marketing leaders are STILL unwilling to embrace the fact that we live in the age of online marketing.

There are many what I’ll call “old school” leaders who got to the six and seven figure income level because they’re awesome at sales and offline prospecting. Which is fantastic. But if they’re sitting back, collecting checks, and not helping their new people with methods that:

One: Are way easier to do

Two: Are way more effective at attracting the right prospects for product or service sales, and team members

Three: Are not old-school, hard selling tactics that most of us hate doing

Then, that’s not so fantastic.

So if you’re one of those old school builders unwilling to change, yeah, I’m looking at you square in the eyes with a question I just heard my buddy Ferny Ceballos ask us on a call yesterday: What happened to 80% of the people working on farms when the tractor was invented?

Exactly, they lost that job.

What do you think is gonna happen over the next few years to networkers who fail to embrace the newest online marketing and AI technologies?

OK, so if the answer isn’t the old way of GOING AFTER people to approach them with the intent to sell them your product or business opportunity, what’s the better, more modernized answer?

Now we’re talking about a subject that excites me so let’s get into it!

Introducing Attraction Marketing, which involves three simple steps:

  • Attract
  • Influence
  • Enroll

And you can do it all on a simple Facebook profile, or an Instagram, or TikTok account.

To attract your best prospects, you need to speak THEIR language on social media.

No more hounding people with how great your product or service is. No more posting empty, soulless things like, “I’m looking for five good people to join my business by tomorrow.”

Think about it very, very seriously… What do YOU think when you hear this kind of stuff?

Don’t you think your audience is saying the same thing and that’s why you get very, very little engagement or responses?

Instead, invest a few minutes that will put money in your bank by asking yourself what PROBLEM you’re solving with your product or service.

Health and wellness like skin care? Start posting social media content speaking to the needs of women who want to look younger, or who want their husband to look at them like he did when they first met.

Non-chemical cleaning products? Start posting social media content that speaks, for example, to moms who are concerned about exposing their children to dangerous and toxic substances in their homes like bleach, and other harsh cleaning products.

Life insurance? Talk to your audience first on social media with quick stories that get them seeing their kids destitute on the street. THEN, their ears will perk up when you tell them to ask you how to solve that problem.

Legal plans? Talk to your audience about losing their home because they didn’t take the time to put it in a trust. Or, talk to business owners about the dangers of dealing with employees without understanding the legal side of the business.

See what’s happening here? You don’t spend all day and night working your knuckles to the bone DMing people on FB about how you have the best thing since sliced bread.

No, you think about THEIR needs, talk about THEIR needs first in your social media posts, Lives, or videos, and ATTRACT them.

That’s the Attract stage.

Then, in the Influence stage, you continue to hit em with social media posts, lives, and videos that show them you 100% understand their needs.

Then, you enroll them in the last stage into your product or service, or business opportunity…. They enroll at this stage because you’ve proven you’re not weirdo on the Internet, but instead, a helpful person who understands their deepest needs, and who took the time to demonstrate before asking for the sale.

That’s true Attraction Marketing, not the second level version I see a lot of people teaching out there about DMing people and bugging people all day long. All you’re doing if you’re teaching your people that stuff is to do the old offline three foot rule, or bug your waitress tactics that everybody hates to do and to be on the receiving end of.

By the way, if this sounds amazing but you want more detailed teaching on how to use it to get free leads for your network marketing business, without spamming anyone or bugging your family or Facebook friends, here’s a link to our free Digital Recruiting Bootcamp series. It teaches you how to use social media to attract new customers and team members every week.

OK, now that you have an understanding of what Attraction Marketing is supposed to look like, let me leave you with three solid tips that go deeper into the process for doing all this.

First, Focus on Building a Solid Personal Brand

This is called You, Inc…meaning you’re branding YOU, not your MLM company. You do this by showing who you are, what you stand for, and how your product or service solves real, tangible problems for your audience. Remember that people follow and buy from people they know, like, and trust, not some weirdo posting weird stuff on social media.

As an example, if you hang out on my YouTube channel long enough, you’ll learn what I stand for, some of my basic beliefs about family and being a Bible-believing steward of the Word of God, and you’ll pick up on some things I don’t stand for at all.

If you resonate with those things, it’s likely you’ll stick around. If you don’t, you’ll leave and that’s ok.

You want to build your audience in the same manner.

Notice how I give away our Digital Recruiting Bootcamp all the time on my channel. I don’t try to sell you anything upfront. I give you free training that by itself will make a big difference in your network marketing business. I offer value first, and sell second.

I’m building MY BRAND first, and that’s an example of Attraction marketing that you can model.

Second, Create Valuable Content Your Audience Cares About

I gave you examples of content types a couple minutes ago, depending on the type of company you’re in.

Here’s a few more tips on this…Make sure you keep your eyes focused on developing content that educates, inspires, or solves problems for your target audience.

A simple way to get started is to create social media posts, videos, and lives that answer questions you had when you were new to your product’s solution, or to your business opportunity. Don’t talk about your product or service itself, but instead talk generally about the problem it solves and provide value with tangible tips and ideas that revolve around that problem.

This works for ANY company.

Again, another example might be that you bring up the emotional aspect of feeling like you’re growing older and looking different as you age when selling an anti-aging product. Don’t talk about the product’s ingredients. Nobody cares yet. Talk about how your prospect is FEELING and how they can solve those challenges. Then, they’ll eventually care about the product itself. But you gotta lead with THEIR problems first if you expect to become an expert at Attraction, Influence, and Enrollment.

Third, Build a Business Asset You Own

As you get better and better with posting social media content that CONNECTS with your target audience, start building an email and/or text messaging list so you can connect with your prospects off the social platform itself.

This adds an extra layer of communication where you send additional helpful tips to build more trust over time.

Some people will find your social media content and buy almost immediately once they see your product or service solution.

Many others, though, will need more time to develop trust in who you are. Remember, everyone’s got this subconscious thing going on in their minds online, “Is this person a weirdo trying to do something weird with me, or are they, and their product, and their business opportunity, on the up and up?”

For those people, sending regular emails or texts that lead them to additional tips will eventually have them asking you, “OK, where do I buy this thing?”

RECAP What’s the best way to approach prospects in Network Marketing?

The truth is, chasing, or “approaching” people is outdated and ineffective.

Let’s be real—how often have you approached someone, only to get ignored or hit with a hard ‘no’? Approaching random prospects makes you look desperate and drains your energy. Worst of all, it attracts people who aren’t even interested in what you’re offering!

Remember that time you messaged an old friend on Facebook, only for them to ghost you once they realized you were leading them down some weird product direction? That’s what happens when you chase instead of doing the attraction marketing method I’ve outlined for you here.

I gotta tell you this story about what happened a few years ago when I was prospecting managers at a local LA mall with the dreaded, “Are you open to a career change?” question.

The last time I tried that nonsense was in Foot Locker. The manager was about 5 inches taller than me, he looked down at me, and said, “Get the F out of my store right now!”

Gee, I guess you’re not open to a career change?

Listen, doing the old “APPROACH” type of marketing with MLM doesn’t work anymore…

And you don’t need it….I mean back in 1985, prospecting may have made sense because the average person didn’t have access to the type of money it took to advertise on TV or radio.

Today with the internet, there’s no reason for you to hit up friends and family or social media contacts in this weird way.

Let me make sure I 100% drill this home by having you imagine this for a moment:

You walk into a networking event where people have gathered to get to know one another and possibly exchange business cards. For some reason you decide it’s a great idea to start shouting at the top of your lungs:

“I’m in a really awesome company. We have the best products to have ever been produced.

“On top of that, we have a fantastic business opportunity where you can come in and make a ton of money.

“As a matter of fact, it’s the best business opportunity to have ever been invented.

“And I’ll show you how to make money in this. You just watch.”

Now, I’m sure you’re having a good laugh thinking about doing this.

You wouldn’t ever dream of doing something so ridiculous and obnoxious, right?

But that’s what you’re doing with a lot of these old school techniques.

Very few people respond because one, they have no earthly idea why you’re being so weird or what you’re talking about, and two, they’re not looking to be “sold” right now.

The answer is to become a master of Attraction Marketing, meaning you become a master at

  • Talking to and Attracting your Perfect Prospects
  • Demonstrating influence with your perfect prospects that have something valuable to give them in the form of real solutions to their problems
  • Enrolling them into your product, service, or opportunity
