1. Identify Your “Best-fit” Team Member

Of course, building a strong network marketing team starts with you…duh, right? LOL

From there, you gotta focus on finding the correct people to add into your team.

Before hopping on Facebook or Instagram to hunt for prospects, think seriously about what your “best-fit” team member looks like.

Ask yourself questions like these:

  • What qualities do these people have?
  • What interests do they talk about?
  • Do they have goals?
  • What are you those goals?

Got that done with quality? Awesome! Now you can start to identify potential recruits.

When you’re thinking about your ideal recruit for your MLM business, it’s important to consider people who are:

  • Passionate about the products or services you offer
  • Motivated and driven to succeed
  • Good communicators and team players
  • Coachable and willing to learn

2. Building Your Network Marketing Team Requires Prospecting Excellence

Prospecting.

It’s the lifeblood of network marketing success, and can sometimes seem scary.

But, really, it’s just about connecting with people and sharing what you’re excited about.

I’m a huge proponent for building your network marketing team using proven strategies inside the online marketing world.

However, if you’re new, think about your network.

You might just find a stud inside your circle of friends, family, old coworkers, or that nice barista at the coffee shop.

Some realism:

You most likely need to expand waaaaay past your warm market to become awesome at network marketing team building.

If you don’t have online marketing skills, get the mentorship you need to learn them.

I didn’t build a big team until I learned how to market on the Internet.

You can do the same thing if you think long-term, and focus on acting as one of the network marketing professionals in this industry…

…not trying to grab anyone who can fog up a mirror LOL

3. Lead with Your Product Offer, Not Biz Opp

Whaaaat???

Aren’t we supposed to be building an MLM downline here?

I know, I know…it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of quickly adding folks into your network marketing business opportunity.

But you do love your product or service, correct?

I sure hope you’re passionate about it because without that…you’re in deep doo-doo!

Pause and consider something:

What type of person do you think you’ll attract if all you talk about is “how to make money”?

I have years of experience in this area, so I’ll let you know what I discovered:

You’ll attract a type of person who never sticks around. It’s the person looking for “get rich quick” or a personality that doesn’t care about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Now, that’s a generality, of course…

…you can find good people focusing on the money thing, but you’ll have to sift through literally hundreds to find them.

Been there, done that and it’s frustrating.

There’s a better way to build a fast-moving, profitable network marketing team:

Instead of talking upfront about money and the business opportunity, lead with value.

More specifically: Lead with your PRODUCT.

Become clear on the BIG problem you solve for others through your product or service.

How does it help people specifically?

Write down “all the ways” and then freely share this knowledge and your growing expertise about it.

Become a trusted advisor of your prospects.

Build a network, or audience, of people looking to solve the problem your product/service solves.

Guess what I found using this approach?

I discovered that those using the product, or experiencing the service (such as Legalshield or Ambit), start feeling more trust toward:

  • You
  • The product/service
  • Your company

They become your HOTTEST business opportunity prospects because of this growing trust!

They’re passionate about the results, your company’s culture, and are far more likely to stick around long enough to see success.

And their success means increasing product sales in that leg of your downline 🙂

4. Invent & Use a Consistent Recruiting System

“Hey honey, let’s go on vacation and wing it!” Your spouse will look at you with a big, “Ummm, no thanks” LOL

I don’t advise building your network marketing team while winging it either.

You need a direct sales team growth system to help you attract people interested in what you have to offer.

(Officially, this process is called attraction marketing)

But how do you create this system?

First step is what I already discussed: Who’s that “best-fit” downline member?

Now it’s time to put you social media attraction & recruiting plan into place.

You gotta focus on putting out excellent content on your TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and/or Pinterest profiles.

Share your story.

Bring out that BIG problem your product/service solves.

Speak to the needs of your prospects first by providing value.

This may seem counter-intuitive, but building your network marketing team becomes far easier when getting product customers first.

Does that sound different from what your upline or network marketing company says and you doubt it?

5. Help Your Team with Training & Support

As you’re building your network marketing team, know that your downline needs help.

Quality support and training helps them feel confident to share their story with potential customers and downline team members.

I know you have the question I did at first:

How the heck do give them quality support?

Start with a very simple onboarding process that takes your new team members through easy first steps.

Give them resources that help with selling the product and building a team:

  • easy-to-follow guides
  • clear scripts
  • access to marketing materials

Invite your team into consistent training sessions (inside a Facebook group, for instance).

Use these sessions to:

  • teach new skills
  • share success stories
  • answer questions

6. Work on MLM Team Culture

You won’t find success at building a strong network marketing team by signing people up and stopping at giving them training resources.

Team culture is vital. Gotta build a strong one.

What is team culture, you might ask:

Team culture is all about the values, working practices, behaviors, and beliefs that the people inside an organization share. More details here from the University of Pennsylvania.

Here are ideas for navigating your MLM team culture.

  • Be a quality role model by recruiting consistently
  • Give all team members your respect
  • Remain positive while helping others

Your team always watches you and will emulate what you do. Do what you want them to do and they’ll help you build the culture.

Don’t forget to create an environment of celebration on the team.

Celebrate each downline member hitting small and big goals. Give them publicity about it inside your team’s Facebook group. People love recognition!

Always communicate well. Get your team used to communicating with one another, too.

Always encourage everyone to share their challenges, wins, and prospecting/marketing tips with the group.

7. Create Extremely Clear Goals & Expectations

You, nor your team, will get anywhere without setting network marketing goals together.

Team Goal Setting

Goal-setting helps the team understand where the organization is going and how they fit into that future.

Start by setting up your own goals.

  • Want more financial freedom?
  • More time with your family?
  • Want to purchase a new house?

Write it all down.

Next, help your teammates set goals.

Keep everything realistic. Help your downline set small, achievable goals at first.

MLM Team Expectations

Setting proper expectations helps the entire team remain on the same page at all times.

Help your team members understand what you expect.

Although you’re not their boss, even budding entrepreneurs need leadership around their sales goals, daily activities, and communication.

Remember, building your network marketing team requires that you become a better leader over time.

8. Use Technology for Efficient Team Management

Plenty of tech tools exist today to help you with the process of building a network marketing team.

Make it a priority to use tech tools to remain connected, organized, and efficient.

The most obvious tool to use for team management is customer relationship management (CRM).

A CRM keeps track of contacts. For example, you’ll have email addresses, phone numbers, and notes at your fingertips for each downline member.

Use this info to keep a pulse on your best recruiters, product salespeople, and who deserves your immediate attention.

No matter which tech tools you select, never forget that you must create authentic relationships. Never prioritize automation as superior to human interaction.

9. MLM Leadership: Outwork Your Team

Building your network marketing team always starts with what you do first.

I mentioned this above, but I gotta make a big point about outworking your team.

Your team will move as fast or as slow as you move. Want your people to recruit more? Then, you up your recruiting numbers first!

Wish more product volume was happening below you? Get your butt into gear and make more product sales.

Your team will follow if you “up” your numbers first.

It’s called leadership.

Show your team how active your are on social media. Show them how to talk about the problems solved by your product or service.

Share your success without sounding like you’re bragging. Tell them about your personal struggles as well, so you’re not setting yourself up as “perfect.”

Let your team see how much you believe in the company and business opportunity.

As well, there are always new network marketing team building strategies to learn and new tools to use. Continue looking for and accessing these new network marketing training resources.

When you’re always learning, your team will follow your example.

10. Use MLM Team Retention Strategies

You’re gonna work your ass off while building your network marketing team.

Work hard to keep those team members your bring in. Help them become and remain PRODUCTIVE.

It’s all about retention so you’re continuously seeing people leave the team.

Offer the ongoing marketing training and support I talked about earlier. Help your team gain new confidence as they stack up wins.

Make sure they know how to sell and recruit effectively.

You’ll do all this via:

  • Regular training sessions
  • Periodic workshops
  • Using online resources

Final Thoughts on Building Your Network Marketing Team

Building a successful network marketing team isn’t just about recruiting people.

You gotta teach MLM success habits that help with team development.

I’ve watched these MLM training techniques build big teams.

Those old guys didn’t build Rome in one day, right? Building a strong network marketing team won’t happen in a day either.

Stay patient, persistent, and always lead with value.
