Matt’s Memo #9 / 6-minute read

Video Version of Memo:

YouTube video

This week I had a client tell me that after 6 years and $1.3 million invested in coaching programs, and hiring experts & consultants…

That the experience working with me to build her a new marketing plan has been the best of any of them.

Wow!

I sat and prayed on that.

How I might “bottle” that experience for every client…

And as I asked God for guidance, something clicked.

I realized I was brutally honest right upfront with probably the #1 reason I have failed in the past with goals…

And the #1 reason I’ve watched others fail.

#1 Friend of Success

The secret is time.

When you look at successful people, if I were to line up a hundred multimillionaires, and you asked every single one,

“How did you make all your money?”

One might say,

“I made it in my franchise business.”

Another would say,

“I made it in my real estate business.”

A third would say,

“I made it in my investments.”

A fourth might say,

“I made it with my online business.”

Maybe you ask,

“Oh, and how much money have you made?”

They might say, “last year I made $5 million.”

Another might say,

“I have a net worth of $30 million.”

That’s great!

So many people out there are outrageously successful.

They have time freedom.

They have huge amounts of money.

They’re debt-free.

They’re amazingly successful.

They might have what you want.

Time: What Few Talk About

There’s lots of common denominators.

But here’s one that I rarely see folks talk about.

Go to each one of these people and say,

“When you started your business, how much money did you make your first year?”

“Oh, I took a salary.”

“What was your salary?”

“$30,000.”

“How many hours did you work?”

“I worked 12, 14 hours a day.”

“Was it work?”

“No, I loved it. I was excited.”

“When did you think you were going to start making huge money?”

“Five years.”

Every single successful person I’ve met and had a good convo with, it’s the same thing.

They start a business…

And they know they’re not going to the “big money” pay window for three, four, five years.

They all know that.

And they know they must put in effort consistently…real effort.

And they know they won’t be making lots of money at first.

They know they’ll be flying coach.

They’ll be staying in Motel 6s.

They know they might very well be working at a desk made of milk cartons and plywood.

Someone around them might ask,

“Hey, when are you going to have enough money to get a desk?”

“Oh, someday.”

They all understood time.

They all understood that their payday would come, but they must put forth effort over a period of time.

#1 Reason For Failure

One of the most, if not the most common reasons people fail in life…

…those people who have dreams and goals but fail, is they don’t understand that concept.

They quit too soon.

They quit too soon because they want the money now.

Successful People Do It With a Smile

Successful people, on the way to the top, they understood they have to put forth consistent effort.

But they’re never sacrificing.

It doesn’t feels that way to them.

They’re not miserable.

They’re smiling.

They have vision.

They see the future.

They know their payday is going to come.

They’re excited.

They love what they’re doing.

How To Turn Around Perceived Failings

If you want to be successful, find something, some business venture.

  • If it’s affiliate marketing, great.
  • If it’s network marketing, fantastic.
  • If it’s your own high ticket coaching program, passing on your knowledge, wonderful.

Find something you can really sink your teeth into, get excited about, and put forth the effort.

Don’t get frustrated or annoyed that you don’t have the money now and that you’re possibly broke now.

This Is The Key:

Successful people at the beginning of their careers were never frustrated or upset that they were broke.

They got excited about milk cartons and plywood LOL

“We can’t even pay our light bill.”

“You know, someday we’re going to be talking about this because our day is going to come.”

“We just keep doing this.”

“We do the right things long enough, we’re going to make that money.”

“This business is going to be huge someday soon.”

That’s the mentality they had.

And contracts may have been canceled…

…and businesses would go up and down…

…and they didn’t hit their projections or their targets and they never got frustrated or upset.

They were still happy.

You have a desire for what you want, and you need to stay absolutely okay and happy right now, no matter what the situation is.

How To “Flip The Script” On Your Success Journey

So if you’re frustrated that you can’t succeed or you’re not succeeding in your venture…

Let’s say it’s network marketing and you’re frustrated because you’ve talked to people and they’ve said “no” or you’ve talked to people and they haven’t engaged.

If you’re frustrated, you’re not at the right place to succeed.

You have to be happy right now.

“I tried to go to the next level and I didn’t hit it.”

Or, “I tried to get my blog to that next traffic level, and I’m still not there.”

Who cares that you’re not there now?

If that’s what you want, are you going to get there?

Yeah 🙂

If that’s what you want, are you going to have a huge worldwide business giving you huge monthly income?

Yes, it’ll happen someday.

That’s the attitude to have!

Don’t get uptight that you’re not going as fast as you think it should go or you’re not at the place you want to be.

Learn To Talk Like Successful Folks Talk

All successful people have the same story.

They say:

“I knew what I wanted to do.”

“I knew the business I wanted to launch.”

“I loved the effort.”

“I put forth the effort.”

“And we were okay eating beans for a while because we would sit there, my wife and I, eating beans going:

“You know, this is okay. This is great. We’re going to talk about this someday in the future.”

Example of “Success” Patience

I mean, think about the young couple going to medical school.

They just started out.

They just got married, 20 years old in medical school.

They’re living in a studio apartment.

They don’t have a car, so they have to have bikes.

They can’t get new clothes, so if they get a tear, they sew them up.

They keep every table scrap because they don’t have money.

They don’t have a television.

They can’t afford it because they’re spending all their money for their education.

And they’re happy because they’re working on the dream.

The current situation is nothing to them.

And they know it’s going to be 8, 9, 10 years before they start bringing in a good income.

But they know it’s coming.

The “Secret” Is TIME

So the secret that you have to consider, is to understand time.

It takes time.

It takes time to build a business.

It takes time to take a business and turn a profit.

It takes time.

And right now, while you’re working, be happy.

No matter what the situation is, this is your God-sent place to be.

It makes all the difference.

All the doors open and all the things you want start rushing towards you faster.

Do This Visualization Exercise

So here’s what I want you to do.

Close your eyes for a moment.

I want you to think about your chief aim.

What you want, your #1 chief desire.

If you don’t have a chief aim, think of some tangible thing that you want.

Maybe that’s a car.

Maybe that’s a vacation someplace.

Maybe it’s being debt-free.

Maybe it’s being able to have enough money in the bank to quit your job.

Maybe it’s a certain amount of money coming in each month from your affiliate marketing or network marketing business.

Whatever gets you fired up!

Think of what you want.

Think of a desire.

Think of the thing or the things you want.

Get those pictures in your mind.

Get those feelings.

Think.

Believe.

Pray to God.

Ask Him if you’re on the path He wants for you.

Line it all up mentally, spiritually, emotionally.

It’s coming.

Soon.

Feel Good in that.

Believe in that.

Dream in that

Yes, you can do it.

So be it.

Open up your eyes.

How do you feel? Pretty good?

Your dreams can come true.

All you have to do is pray, and believe in what God brings into your heart.

I’ll leave you with this.

One of the most powerful statements said over and over by some of the most successful people came from Napoleon Hill.“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and bring itself to believe it can achieve.”

Ok, that’s it for this Memo.

See you in my next Memo with more exploration into the concepts and skills that will drive more leads and sales for your business.

Helping you build it big,
