The company was founded in 1985 by Frank VanderSloot. Melaleuca is headquartered in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and has over 3000 employees. The company does business in 19 countries and offers over 400 products.

Melaleuca works like all MLM companies. You can join as an independent contractor (Melaleuca calls you a Marketing Executive) and sell products to customers. You can also recruit other members to join your Melaleuca MLM business team and earn a commission on their sales.

What Is MLM?

Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a type of direct sales. All multilevel marketing companies employ a similar system. It’s a business model where MLM distributors earn commissions on their own sales and the sales of people they recruit.

In an MLM company, you can also earn a commission on the sales of people your recruits recruit, and so on. This is known as downline commissioning.

Many people think that multi-level marketing is a pyramid scheme, but this is not true. Pyramid schemes are illegal and they are based on recruitment, not selling products.

Is Melaleuca an MLM?

Yes, we need to classify Melaleuca as a multilevel marketing company. Like all legit network marketing companies, Melaleuca offers a legitimate opportunity to earn income by making personal sales and recruiting other members to join your team.

For some reason, Melaleuca tries to distance itself from the direct selling industry. However, it’s a member of the Direct Selling Association. It truly is a multi-level marketing, or MLM, company.

Is Melaleuca an MLM Pyramid Scheme?

No, Melaleuca is not a pyramid scheme. You can always spot a pyramid scheme when you’re asked to join something without seeing any actual products for sale.

Melaleuca is a member of the Direct Selling Association and it follows all the rules and regulations of the organization. The company is also registered with the Better Business Bureau. Direct sales companies aren’t pyramids.

People often mistake MLM and network marketing companies for pyramid schemes because of the way these businesses are structured.

Inside a situation like the Melaleuca MLM opportunity, you can earn a commission on the sales of people you recruit to join your team.

Some people think this is unfair because it’s easier to make money if you have a large team. As a result, you might hear something like:

“Only people at the top make money.”

You know the person saying it doesn’t understand MLM whatsoever.

How do I know this?

Because I’ve joined more than one multilevel marketing company, outworked, outhustled, and out-recruited my upline (and their uplines).

Result?

I made more money than they did.

The “only people at the top make money” is a weak argument made by people who don’t want to admit why they truly didn’t become successful with their Melaleuca network marketing business (or any other MLM).

When someone asks, “Is Melaleuca a pyramid scheme?”, what they’re really asking is, “Is Melaleuca a scam?”

The answer is no, Melaleuca is not a scam. It’s a legitimate multilevel marketing company with a solid product line.

The company follows the guidelines that keep it from entering into the pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme area.

If you hear “Melaleuca is a pyramid scheme”, again, you’re talking with an uneducated individual.

Pyramid schemes are scams that get people to invest money in something without involving a product for sale.

You’ll notice that Melaleuca brings dozens of products to the table. A Melaleuca Marketing Exec only makes commissions on their downline when those downline members create product sales.

No one makes money by “signing people up”.

You will only earn money if you sell Melaleuca products and your downline sells Melaleuca products.

Legit all the way down the line.

It sure is.

Ah, so that’s why it’s all a scam.

Success is rare only because some people in Melaleuca don’t understand what it takes to build an online business.
